Title: The workability of bitumanous mixes: assessment of
test methods
Publisher: Transport and Road Research Laboratory, 1990
Physical description: 23p., charts
Price: Unpriced
Series: Working Paper: Materials Memorandum 224
Notes - general: The satisfactory performance of a bituminous layer is
dependent on the achievement of adequte compaction
and, in the case of a hot rolled asphalt wearing
course, the correct embedment of the hot rolled
asphalt wearing course, the correct embedment of the
chippings. The property controlling these factors in
materials is the mix workability. In this report, the
concept of workability is defined, the method which
have been proposed to quantify it are reviewed, and
the results of a laboratory investigation into one
method, the tripod penetrometer test, are described.
