       Notes - general: Abstract: A review of current analytical and code
                        methods of predicing punching shear capacities of
                        solid slabs was carried out.  The review was
                        argumented by discussions with bridge engineers to
                        ascertain the problem asscosciated with applying the
                        current design standards.  These problems have been
                        referred to in section 1.1.  The review of  methods of
                        prediction is presented in section 2.
