Notes - general: The reason for this study is the increasing cost of
bridge maintenance in the UK that has occured in
recent years. The main pirpose of the study was to
examine whether any changes could be made to the SLS
criteria given in the loading and design parts of
BS5400 including their assessment versions to reduce
future maintenance costs. The work called for a
fundamental review of the serviceability loading
criteria applied in bridge design and assessment.
Retaining walls are included in the study.
