       Notes - general: A series of twelve tests have been conducted on
                        literally unbraced welded steel beams of the
                        proportions used in bridges.  The test programme was
                        designed to study the effects of controlled lack of
                        straightness and residual welding stresses.  All
                        specimens had unequal flanges, the larger flange being
                        in tension, and were subjected to moment gradient
                        loading.
