       Notes - general: Welding conditions have been determined for making
                        selected butt and lap joints in reinforcing bars by
                        manual metal arc welding and tensile tests have been
                        carried out on welded joints in both hot rolled and
                        cold worked steel bars.  Some work has also been
                        carried out on CO2 welding and self-shieded welding of
                        lap joints.  test specimens have been prepared for the
                        investigation of hydrogen induced heat affected zone
                        cracking.
