Notes

a petrographical examination has been made of an Oxfordshire sand that is being considered for use as the fine aggregate in Ralumac surfacing. It was found that the composition of the sand is almost entirely particles of limestone and limestone debris with only 6% of quartz present. It is suggested that the proportion of quartz in the sand should be increased in order to provide the desired skid-resistant matrix microtexture. A comparison is made between the Oxfordshire sand and the morainic sand presently used in Ralumac surfacing.
