Two axle load tests of masonry arch bridges

Research Organisation  University of Nottingham

Description

This project was designed to build on work sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) investigating serviceability requirements for masonry arch bridges. The EPSRC project investigated the behaviour of model masonry arches subject to cyclic loading applied at one quarter point with the aim of determining the influence of repeated loading on the deflection and cracking characteristics, as well as the ultimate capacity of masonry arches. A preliminary set of empirical serviceability criteria, for use in the assessment of arch bridges, was formulated.
